We accept written submissions such as:
  • Summaries of the most important topic covered in your paper or additional related points;
  • Perspectives on the communication of science and technology (validate your arguments citing and referencing information sources) 
  • Book and film reviews;
  • How-to posts (e.g. How to reach an audience, how to communicate with policymakers etc.)
  • Interviews;
  • Newsy coverage of the latest trends and research;
  • News and reports about conferences and events.
And visuals, for example:

Style requirements

All content must be in English.

Blog posts 
Blog posts should be under 1,000 words in length. Longer articles will be considered on a case by case basis (turn to this helpful post for some tips to get you started ).

Readability. To make the post easier to read avoid passive voice and scientific jargon.
Make clear from the opening sentence what you will be talking about and use subheadings in the post body and short paragraphs or bullet points. You can include technical details in the post, but only if you can explain them accessibly and avoid those that are only relevant to scientists (e.g. analysis of covariance).
Please note that we will copyedit your post to make small stylistic or format based adjustments deemed necessary. We will email the post back to you for your approval before publishing.

References. If you are referencing from something which exists online, it is preferable to use in-text links. Links should be descriptive. Avoid using the word ‘link’ in brackets after a sentence or linking from the word ‘here’, where an alternative is possible.
For example:
write:
  • Studies show that the average views for each cat video his higher than any other category of YouTube content
Instead of:
  • Studies show that the average views for each cat video his higher than any other category of YouTube content (Myrick, 2015)
  • Studies show that the average views for each cat video his higher than any other category of YouTube content (link)
Titles. Try to keep post titles short (under 70 characters in length) and capitalise only the first word. Please note that the editor may change the headline to increase the chance of being found online, and shared on social media.

Videos should be in English. Subtitles should be provided for all non-English language films. Keep your video short – 5-minute maximum length – and remember to include the content and keywords in the title.
To avoid copyrights infringements please use in your videos only music downloaded from YouTube Audio Library.

Information to be submitted with your text

  • A brief writer’s profile;
  • Links to two or three clips that represent your published work;
  • Any other relevant links you wish to display: Twitter Handle, LinkedIn profile, your blog, etc;
  • Author image (optional);
  • Images for the post (optional). Images are not to be inserted into the text but sent as a separate attachment. If the image is from the internet, then please send a link as well. Please note that it is essential that we have permission to publish the image, either through a Creative Commons license or through explicit written permission from the copyright owner.

Comments and replies will be moderated. However, feel free to report any unwarranted behaviour. Should you prefer not to read and answer readers' comments, please ask us to disable comments.
